Anthony Perea began cultivating his interest in aviation in 2008, seeking to immerse himself in a new challenge outside the challenges he helps families overcome in wealth management.
He started by taking a few aviation demo flights at the Miami Opa-Locka Airport. Though he was not convinced on his first flight, he tried it a few more times and relished the challenge. Anthony made the decision to commit to aviation, and underwent training, which he completed in one year.
After immersing himself in his training, Anthony wanted to be more involved in flying, so he invested in and with two other pilots established a flight school, Premier One Aviation. In time he purchased his first airplane, a CTLS which was the best selling Light Sport Aircraft at the time. After 4 years he upgraded to a much larger and faster airplane. Now the owner of a Cirrus SR20, Anthony has flown to twenty states and fifteen countries, scheduling his vacations around aviation conferences held throughout the United States.
While aviation might seem to be a departure from wealth management, Anthony finds that he can apply many of his skills as a pilot to his work. The two fields both require a good deal of risk management, assessment of environment conditions (market factors vs. weather) and due diligence before making a decision to embark on a given path. He has found that while the parameters might be different, each field’s challenges serve to strengthen his skills in the other.
Around five years ago, Anthony and a fellow pilot began organizing annual Caribbean Fly-Ins, a gathering of more than a dozen pilots to fly en masse to various Caribbean islands.
Most recently, they held their 5th Annual Caribbean Fly-In, flying to Puerto Rico and island-hopping throughout the region visiting other nearby islands.
Being a pilot comes with significant responsibility, not just for the safety of the plane and its passengers, but with the unique ability to quickly transport precious cargo across large distances. Anthony has recently joined an organization called Pilots N Paws, where pilots volunteer their time to rescuing dogs and cats at risk of being euthanized. These pilots retrieve those animals and transfer them to other cities to help them find permanent homes.
